What you need to bring to your signing appointment:
All signers must be present and will need to have a picture ID to ensure identity verification. Examples of acceptable ID include state-issued driver's license or ID, passport, or military ID. IDs must have a valid issue date, expiration date that has not expired, issuing agency, and picture. We reserve the right to refuse notarization for any signers unable to provide valid ID. You will also need to have the proper paperwork and proper notarial forms, unless that information has been sent to notary for advance printing.
What notarial documents should I have?
Virginia law prohibits commissioned notaries to advise as to what type of notarial form you will need and also prohibits any legal advice or interpretation of documents. If you are unsure as to what documents you will need, have specific questions about your documents, or if your paperwork does not include the documents and/or notarial forms needed, please contact the financial institution or attorney regarding any information pertaining to your documents, including what notarial documents you will need. Notaries are unable to verify the accuracy or validity of documents signed. For signatures, you may need an "Acknowledgment" which verifies the you signed the document with the notary as a witness, or a "Jurat", in which the signer swears and affirms that what they have signed is true.
Documents that cannot be notarized:
Virginia commissioned notary publics are by law prohibited from notarizing any vital records (birth, death, marriage, divorce). Examples: divorce decree, name changes, Virginia State Corporation Commission issued documents) If you need any of these documents, you may contact the Division of Vital Records and Statistics to request from the state in which you were born. If a request form for documents is required to be notarized, Virginia notaries are able to notarize the request form. VA notaries are not able to perform marriage ceremonies.
Cancellations:
Please give 48 hour notice of all cancellations and rescheduling. A rescheduling fee of $25 will be applied to any services booked that are cancelled within 48 hrs of the original signing appointment.
